Being an intern, is the most expected moment of any youngster, apart from falling in love. The anxiety, the anticipation, expectation, the dreams that come with that, all create a movie style feeling. Its always difficult or even impossible to find the one closest to their DREAM IDEA. Internship for most young people, happens through family contact, and known people. Some are paid,while most others are UNPAID, internships. Most of them last from 3 months to a year. Young people look forward to a corporate experience, and exposure, looking up at the way people organize their time and space.
Taking clues about dressing to body language, its like a hands on training programme. Whether it helps them or not in any particular way, its their first taste of WORKING LIFE AND CAREER. Recent reports about abuse of interns are being heard. It often goes unnoticed as no youngster would want to create a bitter memory for themselves and to the person who recommended in the first place.
Some have been so badly treated, that it has almost altered their view on corporate life. Companies may also lose some very good talent, if it went unnoticed. Aviation is one sector where aprentices are engaged on a routine basis, and who have got into full employment and doing very well in later lives. Its not wrong or below ones, dignity to work without pay, but must be treated on par with other employees of the organization .
1. TO GIVE SPECIFIC WORK AREA.
2.TO ALLOT DAILY OR WEEKLY WORK SCHEDULES.
3. DISCUSS WITH THEM AND ALLOT DEPARTMENT RELATED WORK.
4.GIVING THEM ANY SPECIFIC PROJECT WILL HELP THEM TO GAIN EXPOSURE AND ALSO TEST THEIR KNOWLEDGE.
5.UNLESS THEY ARE FULLY ENGAGED AND INVOLVED, THEY CAN NEVER WORK IN REAL ENVIRONMENT.
6. HAVING WORK ON A REGULAR 9-5 BASIS ALONE CAN HELP INTERNS APPRECIATE THE VALUE OF THE WHOLE INTERNSHIP.
7.NOT GIVING THEM WORK IS LIKE TREATING THEM AS UNIMPORTANT.
8.TO IGNORE INTERNS AMOUNTS TO EMOTIONAL ABUSE.
9.IF THE COMPANY IS NOT INTERESTED OR DOESNT NEED, SHOULD SAY SO. SO THAT THE INTERN CAN FIND THEMSELVES A PLACEMENT ELSEWHERE.
10.GOOD EXPERIENCE GAINED BY A YOUNGSTER CHANGES THEIR WHOLE MENTAL STATE, IN LATER LIFE AND SIMILARLY A BAD EXPERIENCE, WILL ALTER THE WAY THEY THINK ABOUT THEMSELVES, AND MAY GIVE UP WANTING TO WORK IN CORPORATE SECTOR.
FOR INTERNS : THINGS TO DO.
1.THEY SHOULD HAVE A CLEAR CUT IDEA OF WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.
2.JUST GETTING AN OPPORTUNITY TO WORK, SHOULD NOT MAKE THEM, OPT FOR IT.
3.THEY SHOULD JOIN THE COMPANY AFTER DOING COMPLETE RESEARCH ON THE COMPANY AND ITS OBJECTIVES.
4.SHOWING A DEEP INTEREST AND RECHECKING IS IMPORTANT.
5.HAVE TO MOVE UT OF THEIR COMFORT ZONE AND WILLINGLY GO THROUGH THE GRIND OF CORPORATE LIFE.
6.UNDERSTAND THAT INSULTS AND HUMILIATION ARE VERY MUCH POSSIBLE AND ITS PART OF CAREER LIFE AHEAD.
7.ONE NEED NOT TOLERATE TOO MUCH COLD BEHAVIOUR FROM OFFICE STAFF. AND VOICING OUT OPINIONS, IS ONE SOLID WAY TO OVERCOME, LATER HARDSHIPS IN CORPORATE WORLD.
8.VOLUNTEERING WITH COMPANY ACTIVITIES, CREATES A HAPPY AND ENJOYABLE STAY.
9.IF THERE IS NO CONNECTED STAY, AND IF FIND IT REALLY A WASTE OF TIME, BEST IS TO LEAVE.
10.ALWAYS ALWAYS, GOOD OR BAD EXPERIENCE, NEVER FAIL TO THANK THE PERSON, WHO RECOMMENDED, THE COMPANY SUPERIOR UNDER WHOM THEY WORK, AND ANYONE WHO HAS ADDED VALUE.
THESE CASES ARE ON THE RISE, LIKE PREDATORS ON THE PROWL. THE MIND OF A YOUNG PERSON CAN HAVE PERMANENT DAMAGE, WHERE A GIRL, WHO WAS SO ENTHUSIASTIC AND ALMOST FINISHED A PROJECT VOLUNTEERLY, ON EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT, WAS NOT EVEN CONSIDERED AS BEING PRESENT, AND THE REJECTION AND THE WAY SHE WAS IGNORED BY THE OTHER STAFF, MADE HER TAKE A DECISION SHE WOULD NOT ENTER THE CORPORATE WORLD AND THAT SHE WILL HAVE HER OWN BUSINESS.
NOT ALWAYS DECISIONS CAN TURN OUT POSITIVE. IT CAN ALSO BECOME NEGATIVE. SO COMPANIES HIRING INTERNS, SHOULD HAVE A CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THEM AND THE INTERNS, AND HELP THEM SEE THE BRIGHTER SIDE OF THINGS.
